Steam Controller Update

Looks like some will be waiting a really long time for Steam Controllers

From Valve:

When we launched Steam Controller last month, we quickly saw that initial demand exceeded our expectations. Switching to a reservation queue has (hopefully) cut down on the headaches on the customer side, and for us it's also been helpful as we plan ahead and try to get as many out as quickly as we are able.

We have no plans to stop making Steam Controller. But as we look at the current demand compared to how many we know we can make by the end of the year, we want to manage expectations as much as we can with regards to when folks can expect to receive their order.

Starting today, the Steam Controller page will show you a time frame by when you can expect to receive your order email, based on when you reserved.

To keep it simple, we're showing one of three estimated order windows:

  • By September 2026

  • By December 2026

  • In 2027 (with additional information on specific timing to come)

What does this mean if I already have a reservation?

When you are logged in to your Steam account and go to the Steam Controller page, you'll now see your expected order window.

What if I haven't reserved yet?

You still can! We will continue to accept reservations, and you'll see an estimated order availability before you click the "reserve now" button.

  • Though the current estimation for orders placed today forward indicate a 2027 date for shipping, we will update that estimate as we get closer.

For anyone with reservations OR hoping to make reservations:

  • We will still be emailing customers with an option to purchase once their place in the queue comes up. You'll have 72 hours to complete your order, otherwise you will be removed from the list and we'll go to the next folks in line.

Steam Machine Pre-Orders date

Techtimes

Valve's two long-awaited hardware products — the Steam Machine living-room console and the Steam Frame standalone VR headset — are closer to reaching consumers than at any point since they were announced in November 2025. According to a report from GameGPU published June 13, Valve plans to announce retail pricing and open pre-orders between June 22 and 30, and benchmark review hardware has already landed in the hands of selected media and content creators. A separate leak, published June 14 by Steam Hardware Updates, claims the price announcement is set for June 23 at 10 a.m. PT, with reservations opening the following week on June 30. Neither date has been confirmed by Valve. What Valve has confirmed — in a June 4 blog post — is that both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame are "shipping this summer."

Place your bets!

Most of the games released in September and October (pre-GTA 6) will have low sales or GTA 6 will fly too close to the Sun and be a moderate success.

Final Fantasy 17 will be announced before Kingdom Hearts 4 is released.

Microsoft’s bloodbath

Last week we talked about Microsoft having only a 3% margin, and that it can’t continue, well, here we are with the other shoe dropping, specifically 3 shoes, with more likely to come.

Xbox is closing down Ninja Theory, the studio behind the Hellblade series, a source tells The Verge. Staffers were told on a call on Monday about the closure, but they are hoping the studio will find a buyer.

Stop Killing Games update

The Commission cannot propose a legal obligation to keep video games playable after they stop being provided commercially.
However, existing EU consumer law already provides for important safeguards for consumers. In reply to the ECI, the Commission will:

  • initiate, by end 2026, an exchange with the video game industry and consumer representatives with the aim to draw up an industry code of conduct on managing video games’ ‘end of life’.

  • work with consumer organisations and authorities to raise awareness about the applicable consumers’ rights, including safeguards protecting their interests.

Active enforcement of the existing consumer rights can also incentivise the providers to offer video games with longer lifespans.
